Q. How does the unit shut off?

A. Some units do not power down, or have on/off switch. They are built to remain on all of the time. This will not drain out the battery.

Q. DSP1 – How do I decrease temp?

A. You cannot. You have to increase temp up past 572 F, and it will reset to 14.

Q. I’m seeing double or 99.95 on my display.

A. There is a clear display sticker that needs to be removed from the screen of most of our timers.

Q. My Thermometer Probe is reading “HI” or “LO” (WT2, DSP1, DTP482, DTTC, DTP392)

A. Usually this is a sign that the cord/probe has malfunctioned. Replacing the cord/probe part, will usually fix the problem.

Q. What type of battery do your units take?

A. Standard AA, AAA, LR44 (1.5 volt button cell), or CR2032 (3 volt)

Q. Digital thermometers – My digital thermometer display flickers when I use it with my induction cooktop?

A. The induction cooktop’s magnetic field may interfere with digital thermometers. If this happens, briefly turn off the induction cooktop to get a digital thermometer reading or use a dial thermometer

Q. Recalibration, how do I do that? (2 different answers, Bimetal & Digital)

A1. A bimetal Insta-Read® dial thermometer may lose accuracy after years of use or after a particularly hard jolt. The hex nut on the underside of the thermometer is used to bring the thermometer back into calibration. First, you need a container of water at a known temperature — the closer to the mid-range the better. A fever thermometer is ideal for measuring the temperature of the water. Lacking that, ice water* (3/4 ice to 1/4 water) in a glass or boiling water (adjust for altitude above 1,000 feet) can be used. Please be cautious around boiling water.

  1. Immerse the thermometer stem in the water to a depth of at least 2 inches.
  2. Hold the dial firmly (pliers or a wrench may have to be used) and slowly rotate the hex nut beneath the dial. Use the pliers or wrench to adjust the next nut. The pointer will start to move.
  3. Rotate the nut clockwise to increase the reading. Rotate the nut counter clockwise to decrease the reading.
  4. Stop adjusting when the pointer indicates the temperature of the water.

Using the Recalibration Tool on Sheath

ProAccurate® models: IRT220, IRT550, IRXL220, IRT220-F, IRB220-F, IRB220-F-6.5 and IRTL220-F

  1. Seat the hex nut on the thermometer into the head of the sheath.
  2. Immerse thermometer in sheath into at least 2 inches of ice water* (2/3 ice to 1/3 water) or boiling water (212°F/100°C at sea level).
  3. Adjust hex nut beneath dial as in steps 3 and 4 above.

*NOTE: It is very difficult to get a 32°F/0°C ice water temperature. It will probably be closer to 34°F/1°C.

A2. Self-Calibration (DTW450L, DTW450, Q2-450X, DTQ450X, DTT450)

  1. Place the stem into a mixture of 3 parts ice and 1 part water.
  2. Press the CAL button for 2 seconds. The display will be blank for 2 seconds. Release the CAL button and 32.0°F appears.

NOTE: To avoid accidental recalibration, this function only works when the water temperature is 30 to 34°F. ERR will appear for 2 seconds if the water is not within this range and then return

Q. The red liquid in your thermometers, is it mercury?

A. No. This liquid is a food safe, oil based liquid.

Q. Data Hold, what is that? (DTW450L, DTW450, Q2-450X, DTQ450X, DTT450, DT450X)

A. The ability to freeze the display on any given measurement. This can be useful in applications where the instrument is not easily read while a measurement is being made.

Q. What is your Warranty?

A. A majority of our products have a 5-Year Limited Warranty. Infrared Thermometers and Scales have a 1-Year Limited Warranty.

5-Year Limited Warranty:

Q. Distance to Spot, What is that? (IN482, IN1022, INTP626X, INTP662)

A. It is the ratio of the distance to the object and the diameter of the temperature measurement area.

Example: Distance to Spot = 2.5:1 If the surface area being measured is 10” in diameter, then the thermometer must be within 25” of the target for an accurate reading.
